HeatShield Chimney Repair in Pasadena: What to Know First
We provide independent HeatShield chimney repair in Pasadena, with most jobs completed in a single visit. Repairs typically run $250 – $900 depending on the damage, and you’ll get a written price before any work starts, so the number you approve is the number you pay. If you own a home with a HeatShield liner or resurfacing system and the chimney isn’t performing the way it should, call (626) 657-5513 and we’ll tell you straight what’s going on.
How HeatShield Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
HeatShield is a ceramic-based resurfacing system, not a steel liner. Most failures we see in Pasadena come down to one of five things:
- Flaking at the smoke chamber shelf. The HeatShield Cerfractory material bonds to the existing clay tile liner. If the original tile wasn’t scored properly during installation, the bond fails and the material flakes off in sheets. We see this on the HeatShield HS-400 series, especially in homes where a previous contractor didn’t prep the surface. Fix: we remove loose material, re-score the substrate, and apply a fresh Cerfractory coat with proper cure time.
- Hairline cracks from temperature swings. Pasadena’s dry summer-to-wet-winter cycle stresses the liner. HeatShield’s HP-100 series handles this well, but older applications from the mid-2000s show vertical hairline cracking at the firebox-to-smoke-chamber transition. Fix: mechanical cleaning of the crack path, then an injection fill and full smoke chamber parge.
- Debonding at the corbel line. That’s the stepped brick ledge where the smoke chamber narrows upward. HeatShield material applied too thin there tends to delaminate. We repair this by rebuilding the corbel profile with a high-bond refractory mortar before reapplying the Cerfractory sealant.
- Gaps at the flue-tile-to-liner junction. HeatShield isn’t a structural liner. If the original clay tiles have separated due to settling (common in pre-1960 Pasadena foundations), the HeatShield surface follows the separation. Fix: we assess whether the shift is stable, then fill the gap with Cerfractory and monitor. If the chimney has moved more than a quarter inch, we recommend a structural relining discussion.
- Water intrusion at the crown flashing. HeatShield protects the flue interior, but the crown and flashing are separate. Pasadena’s winter rain finds gaps in old mortar crowns, and water runs down the exterior of the HeatShield surface. Fix: crown rebuild or waterproofing plus flashing repair, then a camera inspection to confirm the HeatShield surface is still intact beneath.

Our HeatShield Chimney Repair Process
Here’s how a typical HeatShield repair job runs with us, start to finish:
- 1
Call and schedule. A live person answers at (626) 657-5513. We book a two-hour window and show up inside it.
- 2
Camera inspection. We run a camera down the flue and record the scan. You see exactly what we see, and we give you the footage. Nothing gets recommended without video evidence.
- 3
Written diagnosis and price. We hand you a written scope of work with a flat price before any tool comes off the truck. If the damage can wait, we say so.
- 4
The repair. We use HeatShield Cerfractory material for patch and resurfacing work. For structural issues where HeatShield isn’t the right call, we’ll recommend and install DuraFlex or Gelco instead, and we’ll tell you why.
- 5
Test and cleanup. We fire the chimney if conditions allow, or run a smoke test, to confirm the flue draws properly. Then we sweep the hearth and leave the space cleaner than we found it.
- 6
Written guarantee. Every HeatShield repair comes with our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If a covered repair fails within a year, we return at no charge.

Small HeatShield patch repairs in Pasadena typically run $250 – $450. A full smoke chamber resurfacing with HeatShield Cerfractory runs $700 – $1,800 depending on chamber size and access. Why Pasadena Homeowners Call Flint Chimney Co Pasadena for HeatShield Work
We’ve been doing this since 2002, and we operate under The Garrison Standard, the same code every Garrison Partners location follows. That means a written price before work starts, background-checked and uniformed technicians on every call, and a live person answering the phone around the clock. Hank Delano knows HeatShield specifically – he’s been cleaning and inspecting chimneys for going on eighteen years, and his crew has worked jobs from Craftsman bungalows near the Arroyo Seco all the way across the San Gabriel Valley. The flue either draws or it doesn’t. Let’s find out which.
We work with HeatShield, DuraFlex, and Gelco, so if your HeatShield repair turns out to require a different approach, we’re not guessing – we’re choosing the right material for the job, not the one with the best margin.
FAQs
That depends on the original installer’s warranty terms, not ours. We’re an independent HeatShield service provider, not affiliated with or authorized by HeatShield. Our work carries our own written one-year guarantee. We’ll tell you if we see workmanship issues that might fall under the original installer’s warranty, and we’ll give you the documentation to pursue it yourself. Call (626) 657-5513 and we’ll walk you through it.
Most HeatShield damage we see in Pasadena is repairable with a patch and resurfacing. Full replacement is only necessary if the underlying clay tile structure has collapsed or the chimney has shifted. We’ll show you the camera footage before recommending anything. Call (626) 657-5513 for a free estimate.
Most HeatShield repairs in Pasadena are done in one visit, typically three to six hours. Cure time for the Cerfractory material runs 24 to 48 hours before the chimney should be fired. We’ll give you a clear timeline in the written scope before work starts.
We use HeatShield’s Cerfractory resurfacing material for HeatShield repairs, which is the manufacturer-specified product for these systems. When a job calls for a different approach, we use DuFlex or Gelco steel liners instead, and we’ll tell you why one is better for your chimney than the other.
Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers it. If a covered repair fails within one full year from the service date, we return at no charge – no argument, no re-billing. It’s in writing on every job. Call (626) 657-5513 with any concerns.
